How Can a Freelance Photographer Give a Client Five Different Looks in One Shoot?

Book a multi-set studio, plan one look per set, and move between them in minutes. At Content Factory Studios in Bow, East London, Studio 1 has five pre-lit sets, so a freelancer can give a client five different looks in a single booking, from £150 for 2 hours or £275 for a half day.

Why five looks changes what you can charge

Clients don’t pay for your hours. They pay for what the shoot does for them: a launch that looks expensive, a profile that wins work, a campaign that sells. Five distinct looks is a bigger outcome than one, so price it as one.

  • Quote the outcome, not the time: “five campaign looks for your launch”, not “4 hours of shooting”.

  • Show studio hire as its own line. It’s a real cost, it’s transparent, and it reminds the client the location is part of the value.

  • The maths: if five looks let you quote even one extra deliverable, the studio pays for itself. And each piece is another chance to be seen. One post can reach thousands of people, and that attention turns into whatever you’re building: sales, leads, or the notice of high-value clients and investors.

Be the freelancer they can’t replace

Most freelancers compete on price. The ones who get rebooked are the ones whose work looks like nobody else’s. Owning a style across five sets, instead of one backdrop everyone has seen, is how a client starts thinking of you rather than “a photographer”.

Pick the kind of client you want more of, and plan the five looks around what that client needs to win.

Plan it before you arrive

  1. One moodboard per set. Decide what each look is for: hero, lifestyle, detail, editorial, statement.

  2. Order the sets by wardrobe and light, so outfit changes and set moves happen together.

  3. If you bring your own lighting, plan the setups in pre-production. Each set is already lit, so you’re adjusting, not starting from scratch.

  4. Send the client the plan the day before. It sets expectations and makes you look in control.

On the day: about 5 minutes per move

The lighting on every set is already rigged, so moving takes about 5 minutes: subject and camera. That’s the difference between two looks and five in the same booking.

Freelancers who shoot here

  • Rob Forest shot a moody editorial with a single light and a 1/4 black mist filter, proof the sets give you a look even with minimal kit.

  • Suhail Patel shoots high-end executive portraits for firms here.

  • David Campbell shot a band’s project here.

  • Stringz Visuals shot, edited and graded a music video at the studio.

Make the client’s day easy

The client experience is part of what you’re selling.

  • Show them round first. Clients mention it in our Google reviews: being shown around at the start makes the space easy to work in.

  • Somewhere to wait: a communal area and a kitchen with free coffee, so clients aren’t standing behind you all day.

  • Room for the team: up to 12 people in Studio 1 and 20 in Studio 2.

  • Early starts and late finishes: we’re open 24 hours.

  • Parking: limited and free on site. Arrange it with us before the day.

Our take: why clients rebook a freelancer

In our opinion, clients rarely rebook because of the photos alone. They rebook because the whole thing felt easy.

  • The plan arrived before the shoot. A client who knows what’s happening trusts you before you’ve taken a picture.

  • The day ran on time. Five pre-lit sets and 5-minute moves mean you’re never the reason the client is waiting.

  • The next shoot was mentioned at delivery. The best time to book the next job is when the client is happiest, the day they see the work.

  • They had something new to come back for. A fresh look each season gives them a reason to book again.

Turn one shoot into repeat work

  • Use two sets for the first job, and show the client the others. You’ve already planted the next shoot.

  • We redesign the sets twice a year, so you can offer clients a fresh look each season without finding new locations.

  • Offer a monthly content day. Recurring clients are worth more than one-off bookings, and the same studio every month keeps their content consistent.
